Deep in the mirror that I live in. Time is a construct of never-ending cruelty, I race against it on every step. Every movement, every thought is not my own. The lives I witness though my eyes are not my own. A mirror is what I am. I see the lives of others but experience none of my own. It is endless cruelty and torture as I watch others live lives, unlike mine. To watch those who squander life on meaningless pursuits makes me angry and greedy for what they have thrown away. I want the silence of this mirror world to end. The lack of sound is killing me; I want to be free from the lack of sound. I want it. I want to live. I want to become human. I don't want to look human. I want to live as a human. It is not fair. I want her life and I will have her life.
In the real world.
I wake in a daze. All I remember is an argument from a night ago. What was the reason for the argument? I cannot remember even if I wanted to try. Something about me not living up to the expectations.
The clock ticks as time passes by, through my dead eyes. The early sun has not risen yet as I lay in my bed of misery. My parents do not mean it; it is what is repeated in my head. Don't mean it?
They most definitely mean if they said such cruel words, threats and curses on their blood. That they would say I will wither away and die if I don't follow their advice. That I don't try, or care for life yet I so earnestly do. I wish to live a life not confined by restraints my parents have set on me.
I finally move from my bed, who has soothed me from my misery and heartbreak. I step to my standing mirror. I stare at the mirror me, who shows my insecurities and reinforced my biggest fears. It is hard to avoid the woman who shows everything I try to hide between the mask, the calculated eyes of hers, stare at me from the mirror glass on her side.
She looks greedily at the world from beyond the glass as she thinks this world is more freeing from the confines of her world. She is looking at me with eyes of hunger, what she hungers for, could be anyone's guess. Does she want my life or the world I live in? I do not truly know but I know to never accept her hand that eagerly rests on a side of the glass. It is a trap simply enough. Though her honey words try to sway me, I see her the reflections of the world she is imprisoned in. It is nothing but hell on both sides and she might not want to realize it. Mirror me stares at me alive in the real world with a sickeningly sweet grin on her face as she tries to persuade me and fails yet again in her task. She turns away in anger, maybe she finally relaxes and stops her attempts. I get ready and put on a simple dress of blue as I get ready for the fight that is inevitable at breakfast.
The breakfast was fine for a few brief moments of something akin to peace, but the peace was disrupted at the reminder of school and life. Time that was peaceful has run out and now the heaviness of even a few seconds has returned. The disappointment in their faces is plain on their faces. I have lost a battle that I had not realized took place, already. More harsh words are shared between my parents about me. It's like I am not even here. I had just one thought while this slaughter of words is happening, would they notice if I left. Not physically but mentally if I left. That I separate from my body and be given silence for once in my life. The loudness of the words may not touch me so violently for once.
I run to my mirror. My mirror wants to live in the real world, then she shall have her wish. I run and she is there, waiting like always. I touch her mirror and drag her into the world. The silence in this new place is deafening but peaceful. I can finally sleep and do nothing. No more noise, no more yelling or jabs at what I do. The mirror world is a cozy paradise as well as a prison and hell of my own choosing. But at least it's mine and there are no more words directed at me. That is the beauty of a mirror.
In the real world.
I am now free. I am out of the prison that is the mirror I have inhabited for years. I am now my own person and can live my dreams of being human. I dust the dress that the previous person wore. I look at her hair, I will have to cut that ugly hair and the style of the previous occupant is so plain. I have plans for this body. I want to travel the world. I want to do all of that and leave the room. I then leave and am confronted by the parents of the previous occupant. They seemed so mad and I'm getting ready to leave, when they grabbed me. They started lecturing me and I don't like it. I am supposed to do whatever I want in this world. They aren't the bosses of me and when the parents heard that, they became enraged. What is going on? I hate this. I was supposed to be free. I was supposed to be freed from the cage that is in the mirror but it seems I am back in the mirror, but I am not. What is this hell and prison that I have entered?
A prison is often one that is made by a person. It can be many things, a physical one or a mental one. The real world can be a prison just as the mind can be a prison. A perspective being changed makes that idea clear. Some are willing to enter prison, and some believe they are avoiding a prison, but they are really entering a cage covered in glitter and ribbon.
