She's going to write a book on how to beat procrastination. No more will she be the woman sitting at her dining room table begging to any universal being that might be listening to help her sit and write this assignment in a timely manner. No longer will she be the woman that buys all her vegetables from the local nursery because she started her seeds too late in the season. No more hearing "had you just handled this when it first happened..." with a tone that just screams disappointment.
She jumps full force into research, taking note of what works and what doesn't work for her. She decides that she will poll her fellow procrastinators for their input. She makes a list and she checks it twice. She lays out a timeline of all the things that she needs to do before starting. She makes a timeline of the writing process, and even a timeline of all the odd and end things to gather and research along the way. She is determined. It doesn't matter that she's using this book writing as a form of procrastination instead of doing her writing assignment, this is way more fun and she thrives under pressure.
She gives herself 6 months to write this book. That seems like a timely manner especially knowing summer is coming meaning she should have more time to do this. Excitedly, she spends the first week finishing up her timeline to-do lists, then she decides she needs to rest. After all, rest is very important. And naturally, she is tired after this procrastination derailing and still must finish her homework. *insert melting emoji here*
We fast forward a few weeks and summertime is upon us. The days are full of birds chirping, sun shining, windows open, and BBQ's going. Of course, everybody knows that summertime means you do nothing except summertime outdoor activities and soak it all in while you can. Procrastinating writing this book is what's best for her soul here and obviously her soul is more important than writing a book about procrastination. Logical reasoning, right? RIGHT! The book isn't even being graded. Lol. And besides who can stick to a writing schedule when it's summertime and the day to day "routine" is all out of whack.
A few more weeks pass and summer is winding down. She's preparing for back to school. Her children are counting down the final days until we all start to fall back into that routine day to day. We love summertime and the freedom it allows us but we appreciate routines and schedules too. Plus, falling back into a routine she decides is the perfect time to just jump back in full force. She'll fall back into a routine and get her mojo back. She just knows it! She's got this. HOW TO BEAT PROCRASTINATION HERE WE COME!
She couldn't help but wonder, is it even really procrastinating when she'd spent so much time thinking it over and planning it out? Does it count as procrastination if it's only the pen to paper or fingers to keys that is last minute? She could argue with herself back and forth about the logistics of procrastination and beating procrastination. Who is to say she is right or wrong one way or the other?
The next thing she knew her 6 months had passed – oops! Her deadline was right around the corner. Was she panicking? No. She was laughing. Laughing at herself for thinking she would do anything but procrastinate writing this book. It's hilarious. It's ironic. It's iconic. It's so very her.
