divert your eyes, you look down

walk softly, preserve the path

magnify your presence, softness on your check

hands locked, a gust sweeps your gaze

space reflected, deep, quiet, calm

stretch connection, above to below

switchbacks, make it easier

altitude gained, down to go up, lost

perception one direction, reverse the other

placeholder for a new beginning

divert your eyes, you look up

walk intently, dig your heels

strength rooted, big breath

hands locked, your scream echoes

you aren’t dead yet, big crow

memorize the soil smell, shadow

path reflects an endless ripple

interruption melds to interpretation

grand, life of water

Lauren, I love the animism and magic realism of this poem. At times, I felt like a bird, others like I was on a steep mountain cliff, and best of all-a wonderful experience. Bravo! Check out my entry, "Green Springs" in the creative nonfiction category of the America: color it in contest and vote if you like it :) Tony
