happy endings

you found heaven.
welcome to paradise, to ever
after. you made it.
you really did.

and you will live and gasp and love
and breathe and sleep and all those things
that humans do.
and you will be happy.

except, someone once told me
that everyone carries a little bit of sadness in them,
and that’s what it means to be human.

i think it must be true. it seems to me
that eternity is such a very long time
to carry a little bit of sadness,
but an even longer time
to drown in bliss.

let me tell you the secret
your sadness whispers:
you are meant for something
far greater than paradise.
