The rain drips on the glass
Tippy tappy she asks to play
The gentle patter yearns to dance on your skin
As you slip into your raincoat
She lets out a tremendous clap!
Your boots squelch in the wet grass
And she flashes her bright smile of glee
You're off to school on this dreary day
The little pins battering against you on all sides
She is relentless in her deluge
But it is better to stay on her good side
A boy walks by, his clothes soaking wet
His hair spiky all around
The consequences of underestimating her spontaneity
She doesn't mind though
She will always do as she pleases
One drenched innocent at a time
You reach for the door of the building
She screams
The walk was too short, not enough time to play!
You say "I'm sorry, I have to go"
That's when the storm begins
Her incandescent white turns into a deep gray
Her bellowing booms grow wild
She strikes a nearby tree
Showing you just how powerful she can be
"Later" you say
Although you know she can't sustain this for much longer
"I promise" you say
She hisses and you can see she is growing tired
"Sorry" you say to those caught in her midst
In class the paint drips from the brush
Drip drop drip drop
Red as blood but you're looking out the window
The downpour lessens into a drizzle and the drizzle into a mist
She tried her best to wait for you
The waning rain shows her resilience
But by the time you are done
By the time the paint has dried
By the time you open the heavy outside door
She is gone
In her wake she leaves a cool breeze
One to show her frosty disposition
But you welcome him
A moment of reprieve from the undulating heat
Now it's his turn
The wind blows, wafting the petrichor into your nose,
Announcing his presence
He strings his fingers in your hair
A cool kiss brushes against your cheek
And he gently walks you home
Tippy tappy she asks to play
The gentle patter yearns to dance on your skin
As you slip into your raincoat
She lets out a tremendous clap!
