Alexander Posey

1873 - 1908

Alexander Lawrence Posey was a poet, humorist, journalist, and politician of the Muscogee Creek Nation. He founded the "Eufaula Indian Journal" in 1901, the first Indigenous daily newspaper. He was mostly known for his political satire in what became the "Fus Fixico Letters."

Olivia Ward Bush-Banks

1869-1944

As an American author, poet, and journalist of African-American and Montaukett heritage, Olivia Ward Bush-Banks celebrated both of her heritages in her work. After being noticed by Paul Laurence Dunbar, she published two volumes of poetry and became a member of the early Harlem Renaissance.

Richard Calmit Adams

1864 - 1921

Richard Calmit Adams was a Lenape poet, writer, attorney, entrepreneur, and cultural historian of the Delaware Tribe of Indians. He published several books featuring poems about his people’s legends and their political rights, and about Delaware culture and history.
