Based out of Pittsburgh, Creative Nonfiction magazine has been consistently publishing excellent work for the last 24 years, showcasing prominent writers and launching the careers of others from across the U.S. and beyond. The magazine publishes short- and long-form essays, inspiring journalists, essayists, poets, fiction writers and all storytellers alike. It was the 2018 winner of the AWP Small Press Publisher award. Essays originally published in the magazine have also been awarded the Pushcart Prize, and have been featured in Best American Essays, Best American Travel Writing and many other notable collections. Creative Nonfiction is “true stories, well told.”
And we couldn’t be more excited or proud to be working with Creative Nonfiction to continue bringing their previously published short-form essays to new audiences around the world – keeping the stories alive and celebrating the genre of creative nonfiction in a new way, thanks to our Short Story Dispensers.
The word ‘creative’ refers simply to the use of literary craft in presenting nonfiction—that is, factually accurate prose about real people and events—in a compelling, vivid manner. To put it another way, creative nonfiction writers do not make things up; they make ideas and information that already exist more interesting and often more accessible.

Through our partnership, Short Edition is offering writers from the magazine’s Sunday Short Reads series a new medium through which to share their very short CNF pieces with new audiences around the world. We at Short Edition have enjoyed the Sunday Short Reads for a long time now, and we couldn’t think of a better and more perfect way to inch our way into the creative nonfiction realm. The short pieces are packed with evocative, literary elements that bring the true story to life and leave the reader with something to think about – all within a quick five minute read or less.
