Let's play...

From September 9 to October 1, take part in the Penn State Harrisburg Short Edition fall contest. Submit your short story or poem to have the chance to be published in our Penn State Harrisburg Short Story dispensers! Your work might also be featured in dispensers across the Commonwealth or in local publications. Nothing is easier: read the rules below and submit your short story or poem.

Our fall contest theme is:

"For the Love of the Game"

To be accepted, your short story or poem must be significantly tied to this theme and be vetted by our Short Edition Editorial Board.

Human, animal, or even machine — we all play games. Games can bring us together, push us apart, or even drive people mad. Tell us a story about a game and why your players are playing it. From sports to mind games, everyone loves to play.

Submissions will be judged in 2 categories:

  • A very short story (maximum of 8,500 characters, including spaces)
  • A poem (maximum of 6,000 characters)

Submit your work by October 1 to be considered. Stories and poems selected by our Editorial Board as winners will be published on our Short Edition dispenser and may be featured in local publications and winning authors will receive gift cards. Honorable mentions will also be chosen and those authors will also have their story or poem published on our dispensers.
