Sonia Melamed and Charlie Rothkopf co-authored this piece based on a real life event that occurred on Valentine’s Day in Parkland, Florida. Charlie plays football for MSD High. He saw a lot of death that day; he saw one of his own coaches die. Sonia promised Charlie that when he was ready she would help him tell his story. Charlie showed amazing courage but has never seen himself as a hero.
