Après avoir équipé en mai dernier la brasserie de Francis Ford Coppola, le Zoetrope Cafe à San Francisco, d’une borne délivrant des histoires courtes, Short Édition a pris l’avion il y a une semaine. Direction : l’Australie.

No book? No problem. A series of vending machines have been installed across France that dispense short stories for train passengers to read on their commutes. The unique idea comes from Short Édition, a French publishing company with a large online community of writers that submitted thousands of pieces of work to the project.

About a year ago, commuters in the French city of Grenoble began to put down their phones in favor of a more literary way to kill time on their way to work. By going to one of several vending machines at train stations around the city, train riders can print out short stories to read by simply tapping a few buttons—all for free.

This joint project of the publishing house Short Edition and the SNCF Gares & Connexions service is the latest cultural offering to be rolled out in the nation’s transport hubs, following the introduction of pianos, art exhibitions, and regular concerts.

Véritable axe de différenciation et levier de performance, la relation client est plus que jamais au cœur des préoccupations de toutes les entreprises. La SNCF vous raconte des histoires : Après quelques mois de test, la SNCF généralise en ce mois de septembre l’implantation de ces distributeurs d’histoires courtes. L’innovation pourrait paraître anecdotique, s’il n’avait pas déjà été distribué 100 000 histoires dans les quelques gares tests. Il y a eu les pianos, les concerts, les magasins,… aujourd’hui la SNCF propose à ces clients, de façon totalement gratuite, de leur distribuer des histoires de 1, 3 ou 5 minutes. Plus qu’une façon de passer le temps, la SNCF dit vouloir proposer avec son dispositif « Gares & Connexions » un « city booster » et faciliter le quotidien des voyageurs et la qualité de l’exploitation.
